On Monday (02/26), Councilman Raiff Matos (DC) presented a request for information from the City of Manaus regarding the action plan to prevent landslides and collapses in the risk areas of Manaus. “I have been visiting several neighborhoods and have seen many risky situations in Manaus. Many heads of households cannot sleep. This type of situation is very difficult. We know about natural phenomena, but we need to know what the city’s strategy is to minimize the damage to families,” said the councilman. Raiff emphasized that the City of Manaus needs preventive actions and not just to act after the occurrences. “We cannot just see these properties at risk and do nothing. Do we have to wait for the house to collapse to do something? I want to understand in practice what is being done by Seminf and Civil Defense to prevent these problems,” he added. During his speech in the Small Expedient of the Municipal Chamber of Manaus (CMM), Councilman Raiff Matos showed the example of a residence located on Monsenhor Pinto Avenue, in the Monte das Oliveiras neighborhood, in the north zone. “The place is about to collapse. The rains are taking all the urban infrastructure and taking the residents’ homes with it,” he said. Demonstration – Councilman Raiff Matos also highlighted the demonstration of conservatives and patriots on Paulista Avenue, in São Paulo, last Sunday (02/25), which mobilized almost one million people in support of former President Jair Bolsonaro. “I want to praise these Brazilians who were at this democratic event. There were more than 750,000 heads of households who, in an orderly manner, defended democracy. We cannot accept political persecution in the country. The Constitution must be obeyed,” he said.
